During the course of the Great Patriotic War, over 34 million men and women served in the Red Army of Workers and Peasants (RKKA): by far the largest army in history. These troops bore the brunt of the war against Nazi tyranny, from the initial shocks of the 1941 sneak attack through the fierce battles of Moscow and Stalingrad to the triumphant conquest of Berlin. |
