Introduction |
---|
After a one-hour break to regroup, the reinforced Soviet 42nd Rifle Division elements attacked again. After all, the German defenders numbered only so many and another hard push should break them. |
Conclusion |
---|
Major General F.A. Bobrov's 42nd Guards Rifle Division with heavy tank support had all but isolated the Germans in Grediakino. He planned to crush the resistance tomorrow. Already the ambitious Zhukov was looking beyond the capture of the town. |
Additional Notes |
---|
Counters from Heroes of the Soviet Union may be used in place of those from Red Warriors. Desert Rats counters can be used in place of those from Afrika Korps. The German StuG IIIg originally had an AT value of 5-8 in the game system, later the AT value was changed to 6-8. The 5-8 AT value would better describe the StuG IIIf, a vehicle which never officially entered the PG universe. For players not using Heroes of the Soviet Union or Red Warriors counters, use 5-8 for the AT values. Soviet Guards transport counters may be downloaded from Avalanche Press. Otherwise, use RKKA trucks and wagons in place of Guards Wagons as needed. Lend-Lease tanks may be downloaded from Avalanche Press. The Soviet player may substitute a close-support Matilda for one of the Matilda pieces if he or she wishes. |

Most of these MARS scenarios feel very similar. A large Soviet force marches through the heavy snow across mostly open ground to fight the Germans and take a town, who in turn keep their heads down from the Soviet artillery and play a game of space invaders shooting down the approaching mass of infantry. Despite the tighter turn count, both sides were able to achieve their step loss objectives, while the Soviets still have almost no shot at taking the town unless the Germans don't contest it. The difference here is the thicker skin Soviet Matildas and fewer German Stugs in the town. Soviets were able to win the duel with the T34s and then run the Matildas into the 50s with little concern. The artillery still cant roll well for whatever reason, never getting outside of the 6-9 box for their rolls, but the Germans actually do fail some morale checks so the Infantry can close and assault. Germans fight off the assaults eventually, but take enough losses for a draw. |
