Introduction |
---|
The fighting up north was reaching the critical stage, with the Germans poised to close off the Uritsk corridor and the Red Army unable to stop them. Field Marshal Wilhem Ritter von Leeb believed in keeping the pressure on a reeling foe. With his forces attacking simultaneously from the east and west he was confident of another German victory. Closing the pincer from the east were the 6th Panzer Division and the Police Division. But the Soviets still had a sizable force guarding Leningrad at the Pushkin corridor. |
Conclusion |
---|
There is reason to believe that the Russians were tipped off to this attack, and were therefore able to deal with it. Whatever the reason, the German attack fizzled and the Soviets held on to Pushkin. The Red Army was starting to make life miserable for the Germans - these defenders were not the sacrificial lambs the border rifle troops had been. More and more, it looked like Leningrad would still be in Russian hands come the fall rains. |
