Introduction |
---|
ARMY GROUP SOUTH: As the German LI Infantry Corps approached the outskirts of Stalingrad, its 71st Infantry Division ran into the first of the defensive works ringing the city. The 194th Infantry Regiment attempted to penetrate the defenses near a railway station. The 101st Heavy Howitzer Battalion and a number of Stuka dive bombers provided strong support. |
Conclusion |
---|
Amid desperate fighting, the Germans advanced with the help of artillery and air support. By the early afternoon the railway station had been taken. |

Mission Accomplished - BOTH SIDES! | ||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
This was a frustrating draw from almost the beginning since the victory conditions as published allow for both sides to accomplish their respective missions. The Russians under the wily, Treadasaur, had to eliminate only 12 German steps, which my defending opponent managed to do by the 10th turn. My Germans had to take and hold all the town hexes, and were able to do this after fierce fighting, but with horrendous casualties (20 steps). Both ends were accomplished, although I think that the Russians had the harder pull in this, probably unplaytested, scenario. We give this poorly-designed scenario a generous rating of 3. |
