Introduction |

With the fall of Wroclaw the Soviets sent the 20th Red Banner Guard Rifle Division racing northward to assist the advance of the 11th Red Banner Guards Tank Division on Poznan. The advance generally follows Highway 5 north. Marshal Anders sent some reinforcements to support the Silesian Military District in blunting the Soviet thrust. Anders hoped American and French forces might also contribute to stopping the Red Army. |
Conclusion |

The hammer and anvil defense: stop the advance with firepower and disrupt it with airpower, then hit the enemy in the flank hard. That's the Polish defense cooked up by General Sulik’s subordinates. What can the Soviets do about it? Disperse and close with the Poles until the airstrike is over, then ride right over them while trying to ignore casualties. Either way it's a good slugfest with plenty of maneuvering and not too much terrain to get in the way. |
