Introduction
Boasting some of the finest infantry on the Axis side, the Celere Division continued to fight alongside the Germans while the rest of CSIR re-organized. Operations resumed on the early morning of the 14th, with XII and XIX battalions attacking toward two hills east of Ivanovka.
Conclusion
The VI and XIX battalions attacked with the usual Bersaglieri elan. Despite encountering heavy rocket fire for the very first time, they advanced swiftly and overran the Soviet frontline defenses. But then a German airstrike mistakenly hit the Bersaglieri (a German officer explained this later by saying the Italians had moved farther forward than expected). The Bersaglieri also encountered anti-personnel mines inside the town, and the attack stalled. At this point reserve battalions VI and XIX were ordered into combat, and fresh forces went around Ivanovka straight toward the objective hills. In the end the whole battlefield was in Celere's hands, but at the cost of more than 400 casualties.
