Introduction |
---|
During the desert war, successful offensives often left the winning side every bit as disorganized as the losers, and ripe for a counter-attack. While the British and their allies smashed Rommel's forces at Alamein to put an end to that cycle, the 1944 campaign could easily have seen the same pattern emerge. In this scenario, 21st Panzer Division opens the German counteroffensive by following remote desert tracks to cut a key supply road on the northern British flank. |
Conclusion |
---|
During the Normandy campaign, German panzer divisions proved they could be formidable opponents on the defensive. But their real purpose was to attack, and that was how they were used throughout the desert war. It would have been no different in 1944, just an attack waged with far more lethal weapons. |
