Introduction |
---|
The German counterattack completely frustrated the Soviets, but they reorganized their forces over the next two days and prepared to push forward again. They aimed their main effort at the village of Totoesti, about three kilometers north of Podu Iloaiei. Lt. General Maximillian von Edelsheim's 24th Panzer Division, a converted cavalry division with a poor fighting record, currently held the town and its environs. Edelsheim's leadership had greatly improved the division's performance, but he would need his troops to exceed that standard to keep the Axis line intact under the coming assault. |
Conclusion |
---|
The initial Soviet assault broke through the German lines and threatened to unhinge the Axis position. But Edelsheim's troops react promptly, rolling to the sound of the guns with the division's reserve battle group. As the last sounds of the fighting died away and the smoke settled, both sides again occupied their starting positions from the night before. |

Into the Hun's Teeth |
---|
The Soviet advance was subject to accurate artillery and mortar fire that caused far too many casualties, while the German ATGs took out a couple of steps of Soviet armor before they were neutralized. The Soviets were close to over running one of the towns when the German reinforcements finally arrived, the Panthers and PzIVs made quick work of the remaining Soviet tanks and TDs to help seal the victory, this time. |
