Introduction |
---|
British troops now held Hill 112 as well as Eterville. From the German perspective, the British were poised to continue their drive toward the Orne. With daylight only hours away, the Germans could waste no time in ejecting the defenders of Hill 112 and Eterville and restoring the line. Unfortunately for the Germans, tank support would not arrive until dawn on the 11th and the attack had to be delayed. |
Conclusion |
---|
The German attack quickly destroyed five of the Grey's Shermans and eventually forces the DCLI and Greys off the hill. An exhausted and decimated II SS Panzer Corps occupied the crest with only a screening force of infantry as British artillery fire pounded anything visible on the slope. To the east an attack on Eterville began as well. |
