Introduction |
---|
The attack by the 10th SS Panzer Division the day before had not achieved its objectives, but Panzergruppe West ordered the attack continued that night based on the fact that darkness would shield them from Allied air-power and finally allow the panzers to destroy the British penetration. It took some time to organise the attack. |
Conclusion |
---|
Strong German pressure drove the British out of Tourmauville and isolated the Argylls in Gavrus. British artillery fire halted the exhausted German infantry shy of the bridges over the Odon. The German advance did not succeed, but sufficient forces were now in place and the British hurt enough that a further advance south for VIII Corps was out of the question for the immediate future. |
