Introduction |
---|
To the west the other half of the German attempt to cut off the British penetration was launched shortly after dawn. The 2nd SS Panzer Division was only able to collect two battalions of infantry and a company of panthers. One battalion and most of the Panthers attacked Brettevullet (off the edge of the map), while the other battalion and a few tanks moved on Grainville. |
Conclusion |
---|
The German attack from the west was launched with insufficient pre-attack intelligence and the 1stBattalion of "Der Fuhrer" regiment ran into the 9th Cameronians in Grainville and the 7th Seaforths and two companies of Churchill tanks moving west to widen the corridor. Between the two British forces and the overwhelming artillery and air support available to them, the Germans were unable to advance, much less link up with Kampfgruppe Frey attacking from the east, |
