Introduction |
---|
With the Marines coming ashore rather slowly and unable to land heavy equipment over the beaches, the French command on Martinique ordered an immediate counter-attack. The remnants of the weak battalion guarding the beach were joined by reinforcements from the nearby capital Fort-de-France to strike the Marines in the afternoon. |
Conclusion |
---|
The Marines halted the French attack after it had gained only a little ground, and their beachhead was never put in jeopardy. The Marines had no short-range anti-tank weapons – the bazooka anti-tank rocket would not see its first action for another year – and fought the ancient French tanks with hand grenades and crowbars. In the hands of Marines, those proved sufficient. |

Atlantic Marines, scenario #2: Into the Sea | ||||||||||||

Atlantic Marines, scenario #2: Into the Sea I could kind of see the handwriting on the wall on this scenario, the French with their 7/6 morale attacking dug-in Marines with a morale of 8/8, but I thought maybe the French could spread out and achieve two of their victory objectives out of three but even that appeared to be a tall task. They do have some off map artillery and three weak armor units, so I gave it a shot. After 15 turns of a 20 scenario, I called it, the French were totally defeated on the battlefield, even in assault combat the French FT17 armor didn’t do well. The French at this point had lost 19 steps, had a ton of demoralized units and none of their victory objectives. The Americans had only lost 3 steps and pretty much routed the French, there was no point in continuing with the last 5 turns, this was a Major American Victory. My first thought was correct on this scenario but worth a try. |
