292nd Infantry attempted a raid on 1 May State Farm, using typically right flank attack maneuvers attacked the field to the north. This choice was influenced by the presence of a 12.7mm AT team that held a position distracting the assigned Stug IIIg to attack from Hitler's preferred right side. An air Folker mission came in early to attack a dug-in 76.2mm "crash/boom" field gun, which survived all attempts to disrupt and kill. Same result with a pair of 81mm mortar teams behind the hill to the north, alternately firing suppressive fire on the field gun with off-map barrages from a 150mm howitzer battery. As the Soviet 307th Rifle was prepared for this attack, the Stug platoon was quickly dispensed of and fell bravely in its tracks. Without the Stug, the on-foot infantry braved mildly effective mortar and off-map arty eventually whittling down the morale of those affected. By the time 292nd was within assault distance of the dug-in position in the woods north of the State Farm, time had run out to carry out the assault on the farm, in the last 45 minutes (3 turns) resulting in a concession of victory to the Soviets who bravely fended off a direct and coordinated attack.
