Introduction

The German advance from Slovakia move much more slowly than on other fronts, thanks to harsh terrain and fierce Polish resistance. Ordered to interpose itself between the Polish fortress cities of Przemysl and Lwow to prevent the garrisons from reinforcing one another, the Edelweiss Division's Rainier Regiment encountered a powerful force of Polish mountain troops equally determined to keep the route open.

Conclusion

The divisional history records that "the Poles fought with exceptional bravery." This would be the only campaign in which the Edelweiss Division faced another nation's mountain troops. It proved a very bitter experience for older veteran officers, as several Polish officers of 1st Mountain Rifles had served alongside them in the Austrian mountain troops in the Great War. The jägers cleared the road after bitter fighting, helping to isolate Lwow.

Scenario WhEa008

Not so much an AAR as just a comment really on the battle that was played out.

What we have here are two very high-moraled sides consisting of Mountain troops from both nations. A pretty tough looking German force enters the map by some hillsides and will at some point have to push through a large forested area. Because of the high morale both forces have and ample leaders, the battle ground down to a kill or be killed affair, with morale playing a lesser part than it would in most scenarios.

It was pretty hard to disrupt or demoralise either side and so killing became the main staple.

For all that, the scenario was still interesting, and the Germans eventually overwhelmed the hard-pressed Polish positions, coming out with a pretty much substantial victory. Not a scenario that offers too much in subtlety though.

Scenario WhEa008

Although unbalanced this is still an intresting scenario.Elite mountain troops from both sides face each other with the Germans having to force thier way down the east west road. The German morale 9/8 coupled with excellent leaders means that the Germans can brush aside the Polish forces and although they can regroup and form new lines a good German player can keep the pressure on and will break through and clear the road.
