Introduction |
---|
KALININ FRONT: The German 81st Infantry Division entrained at its French garrisons on 22 December 1941 for the Russian front. Two weeks later, its 189th Infantry Regiment climbed off the cattle cars into the bitter cold and marched off for the vital railway station at Okhvat. The corps diary noted "The regiment's total lack of winter requirements defies description." While the Germans shuffled along, the well-equipped Siberians of the Soviet 249th Rifle Division - formed at the outbreak of war from the pick of the Ural Military District's professional, long-service border guards - were bearing down on the town as well. |
Conclusion |
---|
The Germans won the race, but the Soviets almost ejected them from the town. After a stiff fight the Soviets withdrew. |

Panzer Grenadier Scenario 3 | ||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
This one was rather short on the turn limit for my tastes. The Germans slowly occupied to the town, held up by the heavy snow ruleset, with MGs forward, and placing their 105s at the very northern tip of the town (indirect fire is disallowed per special rules so a forward placement is necessary to utilize them). The mortar team and AT guns moved into the woods on the left in order to deny easy movement through this covered approach to the town. The rest of the infantry plopped down in the rest of the town hexes. The Russians sped southward along the road until the 105s were set up then moved in a southwestward direction, advancing through the forest to block los. They consolidated for 2 turns in order to overwhelm the Germans. They came out and advanced through the open ground. The Germans fired their artillery and MGs into the advancing column to no material effect, so the solid body hit the town and won over 2 of the town hexes, knocking out 1 MG platoon and both 105s before time expired. If the scenario had gone on for another 5 turns, all of the Germans would likely be dead or scattered, but the cautious advance of the Russians in this case cost them the win. |

Ataca de Los Sovieticos! | ||||||||||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
