Introduction |
---|
The Cosseria Infantry Division, located on the left flank of the Ravenna Division, remained untouched in the first day's fighting. However, this grace period lasted just 24 hours. On December 12th, two of its battalions, the II/89 and II/90, received the brunt of another Soviet assault. One attack took place close to Nowo Kalitwa, the town on the left flank of II Corps at the junction with the Alpini Corps, while the second one aimed at the conquest of Hill 192. The second made more progress while growing in intensity. An early thrust made by the Soviets had been repulsed using a reserve company, but at 1000 the attack was renewed by two fresh battalions. |
Conclusion |
---|
The fresh assault again overwhelmed the first defensive line, and the Soviets started to creep up the hill. Approximately two hours after the Soviet attack the reserve battalion of the 90th Regiment was dispatched to the hill. Thanks to the help of remaining Italian forces and a German platoon sent by the adjacent 318th Regiment, the positions were once again under Italian control. The tussle for the high ground lasted for an additional four days with the hill changing hands more than ten times. |
Additional Notes |
---|
Artillery is from the Cosseria division, therefore upgrade 75/27 howitzers to 75/18 howitzers, as per special rule 16. |
