Introduction |
---|
After occupying the Japanese bivouac near Binu, the Raiders made camp in the former Japanese positions. The Japanese were slow to discover this fact and 25 messengers were killed trying to enter the position, believing it to still be occupied by the remnants of the 230th Regiment force. On the afternoon of the 12th signs of a Japanese attack on the position began to appear. |
Conclusion |
---|
The Japanese attacks were weakened by the initial artillery fire, which, although unobserved, inflicted some casualties and delayed movement. The Raiders successfully fought off four attacks on the afternoon of the 12th. Over the next five days the they patrolled the area until it was clear that the Japanese had escaped to the west. Lt-Colonel Carlson entered the perimeter and met with General Vandegrift who gave him and his unit the mission of scouting into the Mt. Austin foothills in search of trails, Japanese forces and harassing artillery. |

Japanese have too many units to fit their set up restrictions. I ignored them as long as each had at least 6. (triangular_cube

This one is pretty disappointing after #39. It has none of the interesting factors at play there. Here we have a raider force on a hill in the jungle that has to repel a Japanese attack from 2 sides, while both keep casualties at a low. Japanese have basically no chance to win, because their force is just weaker, while on the attack across open ground, against that terrain. The best move for them is likely to just dance in the jungle and force the draw. I actually had them attack despite their low chances to at least hope the dice went their way. They didn't. Massed op fire was enough to tear up the Japanese western advance across open ground and get kill count. Raider set up wasnt interesting either. Just set 3xraid in 3 hexes to support each other and dig in on any turn they arent shooting. Pretty mindless stuff. There are also some set up issues, and very cumbersome American OBA rules for this one, that ultimately have little effect. |
