Introduction |
---|
Near the end of the day on the 19th the 3rd Battalion, 147th Infantry Regiment (plus C Company and less I Company) entered the line between the 6th Marines and the 182nd Infantry Regiments. It was 22 January before the offensive resumed. Inland the 25th Division was to attack northwest in an attempt to drive in the Japanese flank. Support was plentiful from ships, aircraft and artillery. |
Conclusion |
---|
The Japanese were again driven west with the heaviest resistance being encountered by the Marines along the coast. A large group of Japanese, dug in with anti-tank guns, halted the regiment's advance after approximately 1,000 yards. To the south the 25th Division's 27th Regiment advanced to the southern edge of the Americal Division line and was poised to encircle the Japanese line on the next day. |

Japanese set up hexes are the same as the previous scenario which make no sense and results in the USMC sharing the same set up zone. I don't know the "correct" set up area, but 5 hexes west makes sense based on the historical results of the last action. (triangular_cube

This one disappointingly was never tabled or proofed before being published. The Japanese have the same setup hexes as they did in #30, despite the line being pushed back from the prior offensive. The end result is they share the same set up area as the USMC, who can't examine the Japanese set up per instructions... so they start in literal assaults with each other or adjacent... I guess. I play as written unless there is obvious or official errata which there is not. Starting immediately is a confused melee per set up instructions and the Japanese roll well enough to get their kill counts prior to the USMC being able to pull back and organize themselves. This was over before it began due to the problematic setup instructions. As so many of these JF scenarios are just a different day's action over the same ground, pick a different one with more coherant set ups, unless you are like me and play them all for no good reason. |
