Introduction

By the 23rd, good progress had been made and the offensive would now be renewed. The battalion commander felt certain that the Japanese would easily fall once pushed. He formed his men into a line and prepared to advance across the Japanese position.

Conclusion

The Japanese proved unable to counter the American attack and only a single American was wounded, and he only slightly. The reduction of the GIFU position had cost the 2nd Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment 106 casualties, 64 of them killed. A total of 164 Americans from five battalions had died in the fighting in the Mount Austin foothills. Japanese casualties in January were 1076 killed and 29 taken prisoner.

Additional Notes

Elsenborn Ridge or Cassino '44 may be used for the U.S. units.

Japanese SSR dictate they have to roll to attempt to move but do not mention whether or not a failure to move counts as their activation. As it usually does in the system with this type of special rule, I played it as such.

I considered giving it a 5 after playing the Austin Arc, just for being able to crush the last bit of resistance!

This played out pretty close to real life. Only one step loss suffered by the American Army, and the US strategy used was the old bum rush. Playing the Japanese in this scenario is humbling.

There is absolutely nothing to game here. Japanese are stuck in their trenches while the Americans are overpowering, on equal morale, and have no more casualty limit. Americans will stay adjacent and just pour DF and OBA into the Japanese until they are no more. They have plenty of time to spare in doing so.
