Introduction |
---|
With a new commander, the 2nd Battalion, 35th Regiment set about preparing to again attack the Japanese positions, this time to be preceded by a large artillery barrage. |
Conclusion |
---|
The artillery fired for 90 minutes, but the infantry, which had been pulled back in order to not be hit by friendly fire, failed to reoccupy their forward positions in time to launch an attack before nightfall. The Japanese continued to slowly starve to death in the isolated GIFU position. |
Additional Notes |

Elsenborn Ridge or Cassino '44 may be used for the U.S. units. |

Japanese SSR dictate they have to roll to attempt to move but do not mention whether or not a failure to move counts as their activation. As it usually does in the system with this type of special rule, I played it as such. (triangular_cube

Same as the last one except Americans are back at morale 8 and have over 200 OBA factors. Japanese set up for the same strategy, counterattack on the right to the scripted to be exposed stack, and then hold on to the left with their HMGs, 70s, and assorted others. Hope is to get enough kills from suicide charges to get the VCs. Americans set up the same, they have to. Americans win first turn init roll by 3 activations and pull back from the Japanese line. Getting rid of the adjacency bonuses will hopefully allow them to survive while the artillery does its work. From here the Japanese are stuck, they cant advance themselves so they sit and try to wait out the artillery until it mostly goes away 2/3 of the way through the scenario. OBA rolls well enough to break the Japanese backs and then the Americans move back up and start adding in DF after the counterattack stacks are suppressed. They methodically clear out enough entrenchments for the VC, but its still close due to the time limit. It is a bit humorous that the last commander got relieved on the field for pulling back as I succesfully did here. That being said, this was all only possible because of the obscene level of OBA and even this had to roll well. Getting Ms or M1s are basically nothing against morale 9 with decent leaders. |
