Swinging north of Siedlce, the Soviets pushed an infantry division toward the Zwiec River. Once across they could press down on the back side of the Siedlce defenses and cut them off. The Poles needed to hold the river line. |
Conclusion |
---|
Infantry versus infantry: the classic battle to force a river crossing. The Soviets must concentrate their firepower to create a path, and the Polish must concentrate to stop them. With a foot force, maneuver will be slow and obvious. Anders’ defense needs to succeed delay any Soviet crossing to protect the flank of his defenses. |
