Introduction

Hill 331.7, overlooking the "infamous" Voroshilova village, had been guarded by the 6th Bersaglieri Regiment for approximately two months. No major action was recorded except for a Soviet attack back in March, the after the 6th had taken over the position from the German paratroopers of the 2nd Regiment. Suddenly, at sunrise on June 27th, a reinforced Soviet battalion rushed forward with indirect fire support.

Conclusion

The Soviet attack had been carefully prepared. Advancing infantry came from the west so that most Italian troops in that part of the sector could not spot them. An antitank platoon close to Hill 331.7 was soon overwhelmed, and the Soviets were about to conquer the long-disputed hill when Italian counterattacks began. Two platoons of the nearby 2nd Company went into action first, and another company from the regimental reserve attacked from the other side of the hill. After fierce fighting the Soviets became disheartened and withdrew. Two weeks later the Italians attacked and the front, which had remained stable for 6 months, changed for good.

Additional Notes

The game designer suggests the following optional change: The town on Map 2 is larger than Voroshilova. For players wanting a more accurate representation of the battlefield, substitute Map 38 (from Kursk, South Flank) for Map 2. It should be placed upside-down so that the map number is in the southeast corner. Woods hexes should be considered as light woods and the town hexes of the small (two-hex) town do not exist.

The Italian 2nd company of VI battalion (the group that includes the HMG and the 47mm gun) sets up on Map 38 on hill hexes south of the town (no longer on or within one hex of hill hexes). The group with two BERS sets up Dug In on map 38 hex 0201.
