Introduction |
---|
In the northern prong of General Anders' plan to cut behind the Monastery and isolate it, the Kresowa Division attacked along Phantom Ridge to secure Point 575 and Colle Sant' Angelo. |
Conclusion |
---|
The Poles ran into intense German fire almost immediately, and fighting soon degenerated into vicious close combats. Polish troops became intermingled with German units, and that plus the mountain terrain made it all but possible for Polish mortars to indentify clear targets. Polish casualties were truly terrible, and the attack was called off and Polish forces ordered to withdraw to their start line. |

Strongpoints are single step units and can be eliminated with X results like any other single step unit. (Shad

The standard mix of strongpoints may be downloaded from Avalanche Press: http://www.avalanchepress.com/German_Strongpoints.php This is the standard mix found in Airborne, Airborne-IE, and Edelweiss Expanded. The strongpoint mix in Cassino '44 is different from that of other PG games. (plloyd1010

Strongpoints are affected by the terrain in their hex just like any other unit.
Even though they can't move, they can attack using Assault Combat if an enemy unit moves into their hex.
They may not dig in or benefit from entrenchments.

The Poles managed to take Point 706, but it took too long and they suffered heavy losses in doing so. The Germans also managed to have a strong second line downslope from Point 706 and had their 75s and nebelwerfers across the valley, having direct fire on the Poles. The Poles suffered too heavy of losses to be able to force the remaining objectives. German victory. |
