Introduction |
---|
The Indian attack up the slopes of the Cassino Massif was not making much headway when the Allied command was startled to learn that a "lost" company of the 1/9 Gurkhas had seized Hangman's Hill. These isolated troops needed re-supply and reinforcing, so in the early hours the Indians set out to aid their comrades. |
Conclusion |
---|
The Germans were well aware of what the Indians were up to, and sent a strong raid to a point only two hundred yards above the advancing Indians. Some of the Indians were cought in a mortar barrage, becoming badly mauled and disorganized. The rest reached Hangman's Hill shortly before dawn. It was impossible to return from the exposed position during daylight, so the Rajputanas settled down among the Gurkhas, unfortunately intensifying the shortage of space and supplies. |

Supporting the Gurkhas |
---|
A quick but interesting scenario with several phases. The Gurkhas start on a mountaintop with the reinforcing Indians several turns away. A small group of German Paras (higher morale) start closer, but are outnumbered by the Indians. The Germans place their random mines along the road between the Monastery and the Indians. The German Paras then quickly move to prepare form a fire group to drive the Gurkhas from their position. Meanwhile, the Indians begin their advance to relieve the Gurkhas. The Indians are slowed by having to travel cross country instead of along the road due to the presence of mines. For several turns, the Gurkhas and Paras trade fire with morale checks , but no permanent damage. Finally, the Indians begin to get in the action, and the Paras inflict a step loss on the Gurkhas. As the Indians start to set up their fire groups to drive the Paras back, the Germans in the Monastery decide to charge the Indians. The German HMG's and Para from the Monastery assault an Indian force beside the mountaintop. At the same time, the Indian fire group begins to inflict casualties on the Germans on the other side of the Gurkhas. So, even as the Germans are winning on one side, the Indians are pushing the German right flank back. The game ends with a draw as both sides have forces beside the hill, the Gurkhas still control the hill, but the Germans inflicted more casualties. |
