Introduction

The second of the three German assaults on the night of 30 April - 1 May was conducted by the 1st Battalion of the 115th Infantry Regiment. With no tanks, the engineer-infantry teams had to take the Australian posts the hard way. While the Australians found the Italians their equal in night combat, they had a decided edge against the Germans.

Conclusion

The barrage disrupted communications here as well as in the other attacks. At first light the German infantry assault teams attacked several posts. Confused, the Australians made little use of their superior night-fighting ability. By the time the situation had been made clear, four posts had been taken.
