Egypt has what is probably the oldest cultural identity in the world. The various Noms along the Nile River were united at the dawn of history. Through the ages the land has be subject to incursions by central Asians, Africans Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Crusaders, and Turks. All the while remembering the great heritage of the Pharaohs. The modern state, the Arab Republic of Egypt, was created by revolting against the British installed monarchy in 1952. Distaste for having been subjugated to the west led then to a Soviet alliance shortly afterward. The Egyptian army has has developed in a solid disciplined force despite the erratic political leadership over the decades. |
