Conceptually, modern Israel began with the close of World War 1, in the expectation that European Jews would be able to go “home” as repayment for their help in financing the allies. Jewish portion of the population grew, came into conflict with, and began to displace the Arabs of the territory. Despite attempts by the British to contain the tension, an underground rebellion forced the United Nations to altered dynamic of Palestine. The State of Israel was created on May 14th, 1948. Arab states promptly attacked and were defeated. In a series of wars the Arabs have attempted to destroy or weaken Israel, all to no avail. Israel continues to stand. |
