This piece is the same, though earlier version, as the U.S. army INF piece. Through out U.S. history, the populace has been uncomfortable with a large standing army. The British wanting to base their army in the Americas was one of the reasons for the revolution. The solution adopted by the U.S. military until, until the early 20th century, was to have a small regular army which would serve as a cadre and stabilizing force for the volunteer army raise during mobilization. |
