Formation Notes

The 44th Infantry Division was formed April 1, 1938. Combat in Poland and France, as well as Russia. Destroyed at Stalingrad. Rebuilt in Belgium in 1943, then deployed in Italy. After refit in 1944, deployed to Hungary. Destroyed again after battle for Budapest. Emblem is from the division's first incarnation.
