When domination isn't enough |

Spoiler alert...this scenario was a blast to play, a lot of maneuver for an urban assault scenario, ordinance quality vs. troop quality and desperate attempts to win by both sides. The scenario started out very historically, with the US having most of its light armor devastated by the StuGs, for which they had no answer. The M16 and its 24 DF got in one good shot before dying, and all of the APCs died. However, the US artillery was keeping the poor morale Volksgrenadiers mostly at bay, although a few did penetrate into the village. For a small scenario, this was a bloodbath, from OBA, DF and Assault. the Germans were actually making a big push for the town, and realized that the StuGs could not take the town on its own. And then the Shermans came to the rescue...briefly. The US got 3 Sherman units, 6 steps. One StuG unit rolled 12, 11, 5 and 12 (or maybe 11, 12, 5 and 11). For those of you watching at home, that's 6 dead steps of Shermans. One unit wiped out the entire relief force in 2 turns. The Shermans, who needed a 10 to hurt the StuGs, did manage to take out 2 steps of them before dying. US Light Armor kept circling out of the StuGs range and/or LOS, and were harassing broken and disrupted Volksgrenadiers, pushing them farther from St. Vith. When the dust cleared, the Germans held most, and not all of the town, and couldn't keep the American light armor off the road. A very exciting, fast playing scenario. |
