Australian Inf Brigade makes a supposedly feint attack on Italian fortifications in the desert. Aussies being Aussies in fact launch full scale assault.
This scenario has little room for any manoeuvre as the Aussies need to take advantage of the night and the wadi before getting to grips with the Italians so this means in effect making a beeline for the first objective entrenchments and hoping not to lose too many steps. The Australians make good headway initially but lose 5 steps in taking the first two entrenchments and then another 2 steps in preparing their next assault on the third objective entrenchment hex, this mean that the Australians can not win but still need to take the objective hex and one other entrenchment to force a draw. The Italian forces have stripped nearly all the remaining uncaptured fortifications of INF units in order to bolster and hold the front line this means the DEM units are either rallied or retreated before the Australian player can ask for their surrender. So we have Italian units sitting in their entrenchments not attacking but waiting for the Australian assault meanwhile rotating any DEM units out of the front line. The Aussies have a choice sit next to the entrenchments and fire or assault either way they are between a rock and a hard place.
*A good solitaire game as the Australians have a puzzle to solve but there is a heck of a lot of nothing much happening on some turns, as units rally or take low odds shots.
