Korean War: Counter-Attack, scenario #62: Race to P’yongyang This scenario I would like to call reckless armor as I was reckless with my 70th Tank Battalion. This scenario unlike the previous scenario the river is major and the North Koreans can take advantage of that. The Americans simply have to clear north-south road on the other side of the river to win but cannot loss more than 12 steps with tank steps counting double. My game kind of started out bad for the Americans, even with all that off-board artillery and air-support. A pesky T34/85 unit in a village kept taking good pot shots at my M26s and M3/76s, take out a step of each while a 40mm AA gun took out another M4/76 step and add to that two 120mm mortars reduced an American Infantry step and eliminated a CAPT as my American air and artillery were too busy concentrating on the NKPA 122mm & 76.2mm guns. But I wasn’t concerned as I still had time and units to clear the road and two ENG units to get across the major river. It just wasn’t a good start and I was too reckless with my armor leading the way. In the end I cleared the road but lost 13 steps in the process, giving the NKPA a hollow victory and since my tank steps counted double, my early mistakes came back to haunt me. I will have to replay this, as I know I should have won this one but it was fun scenario to play. The draw of a deadly B29 counter also helped me clear the road. |
