From the outset, this was frustrating from the German point of view. Nearly every bombardment, attack or assault was stymied by the Soviet defense. Soviet AT gunners had bulls eyes on German armor. German combined arms teams were deadlocked in the assault and Soviet positions remained solid throughout the battle. The Soviets on the ridge seemed practically invulnerable to attack after attack. Two German probes were turned back when reinforced by Soviet counterattacks. With maybe 15-20 more turns, objectives might have been reachable. As it was, it was a minor Soviet victory, primarily on hitting German mobile units being transported to different areas of the front to exploit what minor successes they had at the time. As a defender, this was a gem. As an attacker, I need some Tums.
