Since this was the original from Tank Battles (published before HBNS) I chose to play the re-written HBNS scenario (at 16 turns) and then continue on to the full 22 turn sceanrio listed in Tank Battles.

At the end of 'regulation play' in HBNS scenario 1, we found the Austrian Schutzbund reeling from massive casualties and rampant desertion in the Officer Corps. The remaining Officers were faced with a daunting challenge of rallying their (mostly) demoralized troops in the face of an Austrian Federal counter attack.

Upon arrival of the Austrian Heimwehr, who took up the positions of the Federals, the Federals went over on to the offensive and completed the rout of the Schutzbund. As the scenario conclusion states, the town of Linz was secured several hours after the attack at the Steyr works was defeated. Many more Schutzbund steps were lost as successive stretches of woods were cleared by the advancing Federals. The Schutzbund were compelled to retreat time and time again, unable to rally or form any sense of a cohesive defensive front. As the end of turn 22, all that remained was a panic stricken mob; fewer than half of the original force returned.
