Fear the road | ||||||||||||

This seemed biased toward the Germans, especially with weak Soviet morale. It seemed playable, where both sides had to stay sharp. It seemed open to alternate strategies as well. Soviets had decent force in the town with the bulk in the treeline along the road. German assault on the town was very effective, driving the forces out. The bulk of the German force moved through the woods south of town, then dashing across to the East seeking cover & then attacking Soviet positions. Soviet forces especially, artillery, slowed the German movement but could not stop it. Any force the Germans engaged were sent fleeing & such units lacked the morale to ever return to the fight in most cases. By the time the last German needed for victory left the map, the Soviets had no units that could approach the thin road defenses left by the Germans. Again, more leadership may have made it possible to rally enough force to challenge the road. If trying this again I might concentrate more Soviets in the deeper woods to dig in on the road & other forces to stay disengaged & threaten returning to road. Soviets can get lucky & deal victorious damage but more likely is hoping for a draw if Germans fail their road defense. |
