This is an excellent quick play scenario. MLaPanzer took Uncle Sam's Misguided Children against my entrenched Japanese HMGs protected by a few infantry platoon. Although this one looks like a walk-over by the marines and their tremendous firepower, it is deceptively difficult for the marines. MLaPanzer chose to split his force into two reinforced company teams with one moving on the left flank and one moving on the right flanks, using the speedier avenues of approach instead of plodding through the jungle and high ground in the middle. The Japanese position was entrenched on the northern hill. As we played with the hidden unit rule from the game special rules, the Marines bumped into an HMG platoon on their left and an infantry platoon on the right about midway up the board. A marine platoon got hammered by a lucky 12 roll by the Japanese infantry. The marines deployed but the Japanese slowly fell back, crucially delaying the marines. One their left, the marines finally reached the objective but time was running out. With the right flank flanking and the left attacking up the hill, the Japanese positions opened fire and clobbered the marines, just as in the historical action.
