This was the third PBEM game for my opponent and his first big attack. The Soviets dug in with their entire force on the objective hill top except for the *2mm Mortar platoon and 7.62mm gun section which set up in the wooded hill to the north. The Germans came on with a straight frontal attack with a supporting attack mounted in the 251s around the east flank. The Germans tried to suppress the Soviets prior to moving up and had little effect and timidly came up the hill trying to fire and then move. This took too long. The two Soviet ATR platoon detached from the defense and set up a blocking position in front of he halftrack causing the Germans to pause not wanting to face the 14.5mm B32 rounds of the PTRS anti-tank rifles. Again, they tried to suppress with fire but to no avail and finally just drove past the ATRs whose shots missed. But the 7.62mm clocked at 251 and the Pioneers riding in it. The main attack still faltered and finally came forward but too late. I think this one was a good learning experience for the Germans.
