Play to the Spirit not to the Letter | ||||||||||||||

Reading other AARs, this is a controversial scenario. The problem is found in the Victory Condition. If you play to the spirit of the VC - that the U.S. is trying to establish a corridor 5 hexes wide and actually move through it during the course of the scenario to exit units - then the scenario is playable. As the Japanese commander I distributed my forces across the various ridges. Once the American force was sighted the distant Japanese groups began to converge on the enemy while those already in the line of fire held their ground as best they could. The Japanese took terrible losses, including to their ranking leader, but were able to slow the U.S. advance just enough to prevent them from opening a corridor all the way across the battlefield. Japanese victory rated 2 for limited tactical options and slow play. |
