Poles decimated in valiant defence |
---|
The Germans had a strong force of 30 platoons a very strong offmap artillery group supported by 3 aircraft and 4 mortars. The Poles had a much smaller force of 12 platoons and more limited ATG’s mortars and some off map arty. A Black Monday indeed. The Poles setup with delaying forces in the two woods and the town, with the final defence on the main hill. The Germans setup off map with the intention of the main attacking force moving through the large woods on the right flank to establish an attack on the main hill from the edge of the woods. The Germans swept through the large woods with the Poles in full retreat. The attackers then swept through most of the town in the centre, with one Polish force holding out for some time. On the left flank the Germans quickly overcame the token force and moved through the second woods and town, and begun to swing around and attack the main objective from the west. After some difficulty closing in on the base of the main hill, the Germans crushed most of the main resistance. Two pockets held out for some time, with the last defenders holding out until the penultimate turn. Overall it was an easy win for the attackers, but the Poles held out until the end due to good morale and some very effective leaders. |
