Deluge #34 - Panzers at Dawn |
---|
The title gives one the impression it is going to be a tank battle, only the Germans have armor, about a battalion each of PzIs & PzIIs going up against a dug in Polish infantry force with four batteries of ATGs, more than a match for the lightly armored German Panzers if they get too close. The Pols also have an armored train with decent BF & AT attack factors. Since the Germans are on the attack, they have to achieve three VCs, control of the N-S railroad & the all-town hexes, control of the 40m hills and the usual steps. The main fighting was in and around the town on map 105, the Germans tried to envelop since the four 40m hills were situated on the flanks of the town, they overran the two hills on the Polish left flank, but their attack stalled out during the approach to the town, the Polish HMGs, French 75s & mortars took a heavy toll on the advancing German infantry. Key for the Polish defense was the armored train, it used its mobility to disrupt the German advance early on, and it took out a couple of steps of light tanks that got too close. The train took advantage of its unique move-fire ability to stay one step ahead the Germans (stayed out of cross fire) as it retreated towards the main town. Gave this scenario a 4, mostly for the armored train, broke up the monotony of a rather typical scenario. |
