This is similar to the last few in that the Americans have to take out a bunch of already used up Japanese that no longer have entrenchments or morale 9. This time they have a larger force, and must still limit casualties. The difference is that the Americans have one isolated company behind the Japanese front line, and the objective is the Japanese rear line. Knowing these conditions, the Japanese plan to hold out on the front only while attempting to roll 2s for casualties, and everyone else is to fall back and swarm the isolated company in an attempt to get some kills there where they will have the numerical advantages. If that fails they will at least be closer to the objectives. This leaves their entire front line very fragile but that doesnt really matter for VCs. Americans face tougher resistance in the South as the scripted setup places initial contact there. It takes a few turns to get fire groups in position while OBA whittles away the defenders. the position falls but after taking a good chunk out of the turn clock. Attention turns north where the main body moves up the road. While this is going on the isolated company rolls well and fights off a couple waves of depleted Japanese. At this point its just a race to the rear line which still has Japanese in it, and although the Americans make contact with this force, there arent enough turns to clear it. Japanese win on territory. Very tough go for the Americans here, but the unique set up and the falling back defenders was an interesting twist. |
