Scenario PaGr001

The Russians set up in the town, save for some reduced infantry and HMG squads and one leader who dug in on the hill hexes 613, 714 and 813 in an effort to slow down the German infantry and HMG platoons from moving forward to take Bogdanovo. With only three platoons of trucks to carry my foot soldiers, I massed much of the infantry in front of the hill to keep them out of the site of Russian guns, thinking that they would roll over the weak Russian resistance and then swarm the town. My panzer platoons and the three truck loads of infantry raced to the right of the hill and around to the other side of the town, where I had planned to have them move in three assault groups consisting of tanks and infantry. The infantry that was supposed to overrun the Russians on the hill instead got bogged down and didn't get to the town in time to deliver the expected victory. Despite 16 step losses to the Russians, and the loss of 3 of 4 leaders, a number of Russian units remained in the town at the end of turn 16. My inability to bypass the hill, as well as 9 game turns ending early due to fog of war, set me up for a loss.
