Stumbling in the Dawn |
---|
the Germans set up with a heavy force in the Town on the hill and lightly defended the Town in 0701. The US bypassed the town using as much of the slopes to avoid fire and approached the town in 0701. The German mortar was very perky early on and causes some delays to the attack on the town. The US set up a multi-hex position around the town and took some effective fire from the defenders that caused additional delays to the assault. Eventually the US was able to get into the town but, the engineer unit was left behind as it was trying to recover its morale which was more difficult than anticipated as I had it stacked with the LtC. By about turn 10 the US had generated all the combat power it could muster in the hex but it was not enough to clear the town. The Germans fought well and most of the US assaults had little or no effect. By game's end two US rifle platoons had been reduced and the Germans still had a full-strength rifle platoon in the town. The US had the time to clear the town it's just that their assaults were not up to the task |
