fairly interesting duel |

The Germans set up behind the clump of trumps west of the board 8 hill. Soviets set up on the hill on board 2 north of the city and in the city. The Germans first approached the board 8 hill fanning out into an arc with armor on the flanks. The Soviets sent the KV-1s and T-34s forward also fanning in an arc and kept the BT-7s in the city cover. Turn 2 the Germans moved the southern tanks further south, two of the three northern tank platoons onto the hill, half of the infantry onto the hill, and the other half back to south of the board 8 trees. Turn 3 the KV-1s took out a step of Pz IIIH, most tanks exchanged fire, the Germans on the hill started digging in, and the Germans by the trees loaded onto the halftracks. Turn 4 the Germans continued to try to turn the Soviet southern flank. On turn 9 the Soviets really gained the upper hand, by destroying both steps of the Pz IIIfs on the hill. With the game slipping away the Germans gamble and send the halftracks toward the town. On turn 10 they enter the south part of town, the Reds letting them do so, figuring other targets have priority. The Germans finally destroy two steps of BT70s in the town. The Soviets respond by retreating the remaining BT70s off the battlefield. Now it's mano-a-mano between the remaining strongest Soviets tanks and the Germans. By around turn 14 the Germans threw caution to the wind and starting charging the remaining tanks with infantry. Now the Soviets were playing dodge-em. They couldn't manage it and eventually lost enough steps to turn the battle into a draw by the published victory conditions, although it was a German victory using the supplemental victory conditions from a BGG document. |
