Germans managed to win my play |

The RKKA set up mostly in the largest forest, although a smaller contingent set up next the the forest on board 4. Most of the Germans advanced into the field, and a smaller portion advanced to the town from the southwest. I decided the Germans should avoid engagement with the large forest Reds and sent everyone to the small forest. Those RKKA withdrew as the Germans approached. Consequently, not much happened for the first twelve or so turns. Eventually all the RKKA were in the big forest. This is when I thought they could stand their ground. Initial engagements yielded greater losses to the Germans. It was looking good for the Reds as fighting continued over the next couple of (game-simulated) hours. Unfortunately, at about turn 22 a lucky assault roll eroded the slight Soviet lead. The Germans for the first time were winning. I felt the Reds needed to take some bold action to recover the lead and had them assault a vulnerable German platoon. This is when their problems compounded, as another unlucky assault now put the Germans firmly in the lead. It was the beginning of the end for the Soviets. The Germans were able to run out the string and maintain their lead. While fairly interesting, I think the victory conditions of the published scenario have problems. I recommend a tie in step losses be considered a Red Army victory. This provides an incentive for the Germans to attack. In conclusion I don't find it nearly as unbalanced as the stats so far indicate. |
