questionable victory conditions |

I like cavalry battles. The problem with this scenario is questionable victory conditions. The Romanians proceeded with caution, as is my nature. They eventually captured one hex in the town and were contesting for a second when the Red Army reinforcements showed up on turn 18. At that point they switched from an offensive to defensive stance. PG being the way it is, it would be difficult for the Reds to eliminate every last Romanian step east of the river, especially with trees available in the south for cover, and the bulk of the Red Army units limited to 3 movement points. Consequently I delayed and retreated toward the trees with everyone else until it was clear at least one Romanian cavalry step would survive. If there was a finer grading scale I would have given this scenario a 2-1/2. A battle like this could be interesting, but as written I think it's difficult for both sides to achieve their victory conditions. |
