Where are the Engineers? | ||||||||||||||

In this scenario the Germans need to take Castle Hill, occupied by the Americans, and Hangman's Hill held by an isolated group of Ghurkhas. The monastery itself is very strong, and I wasn't worried about losing that objective. I set up a more defensive line north of Castle Hill, trying to prevent the Americans from reaching the Ghurkhas before I had the chance to take Hangman's Hill. It worked, in that Hangman's Hill fell in good time, but I had mistakenly sent the only Engineer that way, instead of keeping it ready for the assault on the steep slopes of Castle Hill. Once that was realised, plus plenty of accurate firing at my troops by the Americans, there was nothing left but to hole up, prevent any late attack on Hangman's Hill, and settle for the draw. This would be an excellent introductory scenario for beginners, and it served as one of my 'training scenarios' for Vassal. |
