Scenario Saip028

The title of this scenario says it all, Death Valley! Map 82 has two large hills and between them kind of forms a Death Valley situation, so I setup my Japanese forces on both hills but close enough where they could support each other and cover the valley area. Two entrenchments setup on either side of the valley with dig-in or jungled-in Japanese units surrounding the entrenchments that had a lot of heavy units in them. The American Army units did not want to repeat history, so they tried to flank the Japanese positions from three different approaches including one though the backside heavy jungle.

This attack left the Americans too scattered to be effective and casualties started to mount on both sides but the turning point was a dice roll of a two against a stack of the only American units, three Infantry units that still had a chance to penetrate one of the Japanese entrenchments. The Japanese had a direct fire of 17 with one leader having a combat modifier of 1, a 70mm gun with DF of 6, a HMG with DF of 6 and one Infantry unit with DF of 4. Knocking out 3 American steps with one roll of a 2. After this, the Americans had no chance to take either entrenchment and most of their units were scattered, demoralized, or disrupted to round up anymore attack strength. The Japanese won a Major Victory. History was repeated the American carried off their dead and wounded for another day!
