The Egyptians in this scenario are hampered in their ability to move, and suffer a morale check on first seeing Israeli tanks (each unit checks as it first happens for them). But the Egyptians absolutely blanket the small board with AA, AT, armor and infantry, mostly garrisoning the towns. Since I played solo, I blindly placed the Egyptian minefields. This was critical to how the battle ended up playing. The road through the first Egyptian defensive line ended up with a DECOY marker instead of a minefield. When an Israeli tank platoon probed the minefield and found it was nothing, the rest of the Israeli tanks poured through and rampaged through the Egyptian rear. The Israeli infantry had a much slower go of it but were gradually defeating the Egyptian front line. By late in the game the Israelis had racked up a huge VP margin due to step losses inflicted, but a logistics shortfall convinced them to sit with those gains rather than press on for an even more astounding victory. The Egyptians managed to destroy a few M48 steps, and even one Centurion step when it got very aggressive but was ambushed between some Egyptian infantry with RPGs. Egyptian losses were heaviest in their armor, AT and AA, while their infantry largely escaped too much Israeli attention. |
