Scenario BeNo001

This game was played between Tony R and myself. The title is a little harsh on Tony as he was the commander of the British forces on this occasion but I am sure he will forgive me. As the title suggest this scenario is an assault by the 46th Infantry brigade on the 12 SS Division on the opening day of OP Epsom. We did not play with British formation cohesion rules (life is pretty tough for the Brits as it is) we did use FOW. The game should start with a Brit pre-planned bombardment but this failed to occur because of communication problems, the Brits still advanced in a very determined manner, overrunning a German forward observer post but already losing more steps than the SS. Then the rain became heavy so all air support was cancelled, the slow movement rate of the British Churchill armour support was not helped by the weather either. A successful German counter attack on the British left flank at 0915 stopped the attack on that flank for a few hours as the units regrouped, an hour later the attack on the other flanks was repulsed, so after 10 game turns both flank attacks had been repulsed and Brit losses were 4 times that of the German losses. Still Bangla tried to push on, but there were now several quick turns due to FOW which meant his slow moving tanks would find it hard to get into the action at any stage. The game now turned into a waiting game for the Germans as the Brits regrouped for a final assault, this final attack happened at 1315 far too late to swing the game back to the Allied side, losses on both sides were heavy the British armour finally arrived but were blown away by extremely accurate fire form the MkIV's (lucky shots 6 shots @ 11/12 to kill I rolled two 11's and a 12). The game ended with the Germans about to counter attack and retake some lost ground. Not a great scenario though we had some fun playing it, its a very hard task for the British to roll up the better morale more firepower SS defensive line. We will swop sides for our next BN game.
